Out-ranking Trip Advisor for Lake District Tours

Early in the summer of 2024, we were approached by an SEO consultant in the UK to help him rank one of his main clients in a competitive niche.

Please note that we often work as link-building specialists for other SEO agancies and consultants, as was the case with this project.

His client, Mountain Goat was looking to maximise their bookings going into the summer holiday season and needed a comprehensive link building strategy to guarantee they were in the top 2 spots within a couple of months.

Matching links with content & UX

Mountain Goat already had a good history and was already in good hands with the SEO consultant who was managing their site.

The content, user experience and intent matched the search query, but the site was underperforming and wasn't reaching it's full potential.

The link building strategy

Although Mountain Goat had a decent number of links overall, they weren't powering the site as desired, so Digital Cornerstone built links that fitted a very specific mould, they needed to be:

  • Relevant wherever possible
  • Authoritative
  • Naturally given by the site owner

(Note on link relevance – what actually makes a backlink relevant is the anchor text and the text surrounding the anchor. It's a common misconception that relevance only comes from a site that's covering the same niche as the link. And whilst I'd prefer to get a link that comes from a site that's in the same niche, the quality of the linking site overall is more important)

The results speak for themselves

This site was very responsive to the links we built and the site started to move the site to the top within 2 months, out ranking sites like Trip Advisor along the way.
